PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin'

Rescue Waggin' is a high-quality life saving program that transports dogs from shelters where they have little chance of finding a home to shelters that can adopt them to loving families.

While transportation of dogs from shelter to shelter is not a new concept, Rescue Waggin' works with a set of guidelines that assures the most humane treatment, best medical care, and best outcomes for animals.

As a Rescue Waggin' partner, you receive many benefits. Most important to all of us is the chance to save friendly, adoptable dogs from euthanasia.

Currently, there are 3 Rescue Waggin' programs. The Midwest Program encompasses the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, and Iowa. The East Coast Program includes the state of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. The Great Plains Program includes the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Nebraska.

If you are interested in becoming a DESTINATION (Receiving) SHELTER, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a community demand for adopting puppies/dogs.
  • Be able to accept dogs and puppies without displacing other adoptable animals in your shelter (or partner with another area shelter to reach this goal).
  • Have a strong infrastructure of employees/volunteers/facility to handle the additional adoptions.
  • Must be willing to work within the Rescue Waggin’ animal transport guidelines.

BENEFITS: Saving animals’ lives. Your shelter will receive behaviorally and medically sound dogs/puppies, at no cost to you.
